New York— Actors’ Equity Association, the national labor union representing more than 51,000 professional actors and stage managers in live theatre, has released a statement in response to the announcement that New York State would be ending restrictions on capacities in businesses, including theatre, for vaccinated attendees beginning May 19.
"We are having regular and ongoing conversations with the Broadway League about what protocols for a safe reopening would look like, and have a clear understanding of their timetable," said Mary McColl, executive director of Actors' Equity Association. "We welcome this unexpected announcement and look forward to a safe reopening of theatre, both on Broadway, Off-Broadway and beyond, that prioritizes the safety of the workers.”
