Alan Eisenberg, a lawyer who as the top executive of Actors' Equity Association for 25 years helped expand its membership, played a leading role in its response to the AIDS crisis and dealt with controversy involving the racial casting of the hit musical "Miss Saigon," died on Oct. 7 in Rhinebeck, N.Y. He was 88.
His wife, Claire Copley, said his death, in a hospital, was caused by lung cancer.
Mr. Eisenberg had worked at law firms for two decades when he was hired in 1981 as the executive secretary (his title was later changed to executive director) of Actors' Equity, which represents theatrical actors and stage managers.
